Part V-Forgive
Have you ever been to The Grand Canyon? It is 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and over a mile deep. Picture a big canyon. On one side there is a cliff that represents mankind. The cliff on the other side represents God. There is a deep canyon in between. For mankind we sin-lie, cheat, steal-I’ve done these. I’ve coveted and been jealous of people who get a nice, new house or friends who took a trip to Europe. Even by breaking one of God’s 10 commandments, we break the whole law. It separates us from God because he is the only perfect one. He is holy.
How do I get to know him since I’ve fallen short with all my sin? The cross comes between the Grand Canyon of separation. I’ve gotten to know the Father who sent his son to die for me. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done….dying to always being in control of my life and running my life to let God take the keys and be in the driver seat. I don’t fear death anymore because I know I will spend eternity in heaven with my savior. This is the most important decision I ever made but it came at a cost worth taking. It was a process for me to get to that place. I will never be the same because of it!
Regarding forgiveness, I can’t give what I haven’t fully received. The forgiver in me makes it possible for me to forgive.
So the question is anyone on your hook? Does anyone owe you anything?
CREATIVE APPLICATION:
Draw a hook on a piece of paper or paint it on a canvas. Then write the name of the person you are wanting to process or depict a loss you’ve experienced on the hook acknowledging who or what you are wanting to take off your hook and forgive and place on God’s hook. They are chained to us and we are chained to them. It’s time for the chains to break!
